Mexico announced the initiation of an antidumping investigation against footwear from China

The Ministry of Economy in Mexico initiates an antidumping investigation on imports of footwear from China.


On April 26, 2024, the initiation of an ex officio antidumping investigation by the Ministry of Economy on imports of footwear from China was published in the Mexican Official Gazette.

The above, due to the fact that the Ministry of Economy observed a considerable increase in the imports of footwear from China since 2020, which could be entering at prices lower than those applied in the Chinese market, so that the Mexican production could be affected due to an unfair trade practice.

The product under investigation includes: i) boots with synthetic cut and synthetic sole; ii) basic, formal and dress sandals with synthetic cut and synthetic sole; iii) sneakers with synthetic cut and synthetic sole; iv) sneakers with textile cut and synthetic sole; v) casual footwear with textile cut and synthetic sole; and vi) basic, formal and dress sandals with textile cut and synthetic sole.

The Ministry of Economy determined that the period of investigation will be from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023, and the period of injury analysis will be from October 1, 2020, to September 30, 2023.

Finally, a period of 23 business days counted 5 business days after April 26, 2024, is granted for interested parties such as importers, domestic producers, exporters and the Chinese Embassy to express their interest in participating in the investigation.
