Welcome to the January 2024 edition of the Jenner & Block Japan Newsletter, a publication containing updates about legal developments in the United States that may be noteworthy to our clients and other leaders in the Japanese legal and business communities.
This edition of the Japan Newsletter addresses a number of interesting subjects across industries and legal practice areas, including new laws that may affect companies that do business in the US. It begins with a look at recent developments with Artificial Intelligence and the various legal implications of the technology. It also explores updates and trends for Delaware corporations and examines recent legislation in California.
This edition next addresses a new “data bridge” to streamline data transfers between businesses in the United States and the United Kingdom. Looking at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which covers much of the Western US, we discuss a decision regarding web-based platforms and personal jurisdiction. In Texas, we examine a federal trade secrets jury verdict involving a substantial technology from India. Finally, we look at two new developments at the Federal Trade Commission. The first is a measure purported to protect workers with a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Labor. The second FTC development is a collaboration with the Department of Justice on an announced proposal to overhaul the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act premerger notification program.
We hope that you find the information in the Jenner & Block Report of interest. We thank you for taking the time to review our publication.
Regards,
The Jenner & Block Team
