What Caused the Pantana CPA Data Breach?

The Pantana CPA data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Pantana’s filing with the Attorney General of Vermont provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on February 24, 2024, Pantana detected unusual activity within its computer network. In response, Pantana secured its systems and then began working with outside cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. Pantana also notified law enforcement about the incident.

Through this investigation, Pantana confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed portions of the company’s network between February 23, 2024 and February 24, 2024, including files containing confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Pantana CPA reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Pantana CPA completed this process on April 18, 2024. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name and Social Security number.

On May 8, 2024, Pantana CPA sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
