What Caused the Sysmex Data Breach?

The Sysmex data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Sysmex’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on February 23, 2024, Sysmex detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, Sysmex launched an internal investigation and enlisted the help of third-party forensics specialists to learn more about the incident and whether any consumer information may have been leaked. Sysmex also notified law enforcement of the incident.

Ultimately, through this investigation, Sysmex confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access portions of its network between March 1, 2024 and March 3, 2024, including files containing confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Sysmex reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, banking information, and date of birth.

On April 15, 2024, Sysmex sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
