The Arkansas Water Resources Center (“AWRC”) issued what it describes as a “Special Announcement” addressing:

When Can We Expect the 104(b) Request for Pre-Proposals This Year? (“Announcement”)

AWRC states that it is:

. . . adjusting the timing of the selection process for 104(b) research projects for the next funding cycle (FY2023) to reflect recent changes to the program at the national level.

The organization expects the project period for FY2023 to be September 1, 2023 – August 31, 2024. Further, it indicates publishing the Request for Pre-proposals will occur in September with a due date in late October. Notifications of final project selections are projected to occur in mid-December.

Funding is noted to be contingent upon federal appropriations. Project funding caps are stated to remain at:

  • $35,000 for faculty
  • $10,000 for students

The Announcement also notes that the matching funds requirement has been reduced to 1:1 (i.e., one non-federal dollar in match for each dollar of requested federal funding).

AWRC describes itself as a water resource institution established, along with similar institutions, at land-grant universities, through the 1964 passage of the federal Water Resources Act. The organization states that in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Institute of Water Resources it has “helped local, state, and federal agencies learn to manage Arkansas’s water resources for more than 30 years.”
