The Report is authored by Vikram Mansharamani.

ISRI describes itself as the “voice of the recycling industry” representing more than 1,500 companies in the U.S. and 40 countries around the globe. The trade association is based in Washington, D.C., and provides advocacy, education, safety and compliance training, and promotes public awareness of the vital role recycled materials play in the United States economy, global trade, the environment and sustainable development.

The Report addresses a number of future issues to be addressed by the recycled materials industry. It notes, by way of introduction:

The recycling industry is facing a rapidly changing world in which trade patterns are shifting, technological disruptions are accelerating, and the global focus on climate change mitigation seems unstoppable.

The potential impact of such developments on the business and regulatory environment in which metal, paper, plastic and other recyclers operate is considered.

The two overall parts of the Report include:

  1. Discussion of high-impact global trends
  2. Exploration of the likely implication of these trends upon the recycled materials industry

Trends considered in the Report include:

  • Climate change
  • Sustainability
  • Electrification
  • Inequality
  • Inflation
  • Social Pressures
  • Technology
  • Digitization
  • Data
  • Geopolitical Realignment
  • Shifting Trade Patterns
