Illinois has joined other states in efforts to require licensure for individuals located outside of the state. In the December 15, 2023 Register, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (“IDFPR”) proposed an amendment to the regulations governing nonresident pharmacy registration. The amendment, if approved, would require the pharmacists-in-charge of nonresident pharmacies to be licensed in Illinois.
While the proposed text of the amendment identifies a January 1, 2024 compliance deadline, this date is likely in error as the period for comments on the proposed rule change remains open.
Illinois nonresident pharmacies may consider submitting comments to IDFPR regarding this individual licensure requirement. Comments on the proposed rule are due by January 29, 2024.
