Now is the time to start planning your visa applications for the summer. In addition to reduced appointment availability in many countries due to limited operations and staffing, many nonimmigrant visa (NIV) application fees will be higher as of May 30, 2023.

The Department of State announced these increases in the Federal Register on March 28, 2023, based on the results of a study of the actual cost to provide certain NIV services. The fees for most non-petition NIVs have not been updated since 2012. A table of the impacted fees is provided below. Other fees are not impacted at this time.

Any application fees paid on or after May 30, 2023, will be subject to the increased fees in the table below. These fees are paid per person, so an increase in fees – especially in the E visa category – could significantly impact the total cost for a family to apply. If planning to renew or apply for a visa in the coming year, submitting the application and fees now (before May 30) could result in considerable savings in the visa process (especially for those E visa applicants who may have multiple family members).
