Hon. Joy Flowers Conti

US Chief District Judge

Western District of Pennsylvania

Judge Conti is the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Judge Conti currently is a judicial advisor and a member of the steering committee for the Sedona Conference’s Working Group 10 on Patent Litigation Best Practices. Judge Conti was a member of the Judicial Conference of the United States, and is the former Chair of the Judicial Conference Committee on the Administration of the Bankruptcy System. She served as the Chair of the Local Rules Committee for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania from 2003 to September 2010. She received the American Inns of Court 2009 Professionalism Award for the Third Circuit. Prior to her appointment, she was a shareholder with the Pittsburgh office of Buchanan Ingersoll, Professional Corporation, now Buchanan Ingersoll Rooney ("Buchanan"), and prior to joining Buchanan she was a partner with Kirkpatrick, Lockhart, Johnson & Hutchison, now known as K&L Gates LLP. Judge Conti was a Professor of Law at Duquesne University and taught courses on civil procedure, corporations, corporate finance, corporate reorganizations and bankruptcy. She is a frequent lecturer on electronic discovery matters. Judge Conti is a former President of the Allegheny County Bar Association (1993), is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law, and while practicing law was listed in The Best Lawyers in America. She is a member of the prestigious American Law Institute and the American College of Bankruptcy. She was the President of the Third Circuit Historical Society. Judge Conti is a summa cum laude graduate of the Duquesne University School of Law, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Duquesne Law Review.

Hon. Xavier Rodriguez

US District Judge

Western District of Texas

Xavier Rodriguez is a former Texas Supreme Court Justice and currently sits on the bench as a United States District Judge for the Western District of Texas. Prior to assuming the bench, he was a partner in the international law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski (now known as Norton Rose Fulbright). He was elected to membership in the American Law Institute, and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General's Corps and has served on the board of directors in a number of charitable organizations across Texas. He is a past chair of the State Bar of Texas Labor and Employment Law Section and currently sits on the Councils of both the State Bar of Texas Litigation Section and the Computer and Technology Section. Judge Rodriguez is the current chair of the State Bar of Texas Continuing Legal Education Committee.

Hon. Elizabeth A. Preston Deavers

US Chief Magistrate Judge

Southern District of Ohio

Elizabeth Preston Deavers received her B.A. in Political Science with a Minor in Philosophy from the Ohio State University in 1989. She received her J.D. in 1994 from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio where she was Editor-In-Chief of the Law Review and Order of the Curia. Magistrate Judge Deavers entered private practice in 1994 as an attorney in the litigation department of the Columbus office of Bricker & Eckler, LLP. From 1997 to 2000, Judge Deavers served as a term law clerk to United States District Judge Edmund A. Sargus, Jr. She returned to Bricker & Eckler following her term clerkship. During her years in private practice, she was involved in complex commercial federal practice, ERISA, False Claims Act proceedings, asset-based health care financing, occupational safety and health law, workers’ compensation defense, civil rights litigation and class action practice. She returned to the Court as Judge Sargus’s career law clerk in 2002, where she served until taking the bench in 2010. Magistrate Judge Deavers was appointed to her first eight-year term as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Ohio on March 15, 2010.
