The 2017 United States Atlantic hurricane season, which officially ended on November 30, was the most expensive ever according to one report. Disaster modelers Chuck Watson and Mark Johnson concluded that total damages for the season, which included Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, topped $202 billion. The staggering financial losses were not the only record breaking statistic to come out of the 2017 season; this was also the first time in recorded history that three Category 4 storms hit the United States.

We will continue to monitor insurance-related developments in the aftermath of the 2017 hurricane season.
