  • 12 Democratic AGs submitted comments to the EPA in response to the agency’s proposed updates to the Safer Choice standard, which is an “informed substitution” program promoting safer product design and green alternatives to hazardous chemicals.
  • The comments’ recommendations include adopting a blanket ban on certifying any products with per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) chemicals in them; evaluating a product’s entire lifecycle from manufacturing through disposal, rather than just its use, when considering whether to certify; developing a more transparent product profiling process conducted by the EPA, rather than by third parties; and providing additional technical assistance to small- and medium-sized businesses interested in certification.
  • The AGs urge the EPA to adopt their recommendations.
