What Caused the Data Breach Affecting Consensus Medical Group Patients?
The Continuum / Consensus data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Continuum’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, Continuum Health provides health management and patient care coordination services to various healthcare companies, including Consensus Medical Group.
On October 19, 2023, Continuum identified suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, Continuum secured its network and then began working with third-party data security specialists to investigate the incident.
Ultimately, through this investigation, Continuum confirmed that an unauthorized party had gained access to its computer network between October 18, 2023 and October 19, 2023. During this time, the unauthorized party was able to access and/or acquire certain files containing confidential patient information.
After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Continuum Health reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Continuum completed this process on March 8, 2024.
