As required by statute and Executive Order, the CPSC published its semi-annual regulatory agenda on June 11, 2018, which summarizes regulatory changes that the CPSC expects to develop or review over the course of the upcoming year.

The June 2018 agenda should be of particular interest to companies involved in the manufacturing, distribution or sale of upholstered furniture, table saws, portable generators and recreational off-road vehicles (ROVs).

More specifically, the agenda highlights the following regulatory issues:

-    plans to prepare a briefing package providing the Commission with options for continuing or terminating rulemaking efforts with respect to standards for flammability of upholstered furniture, which have been ongoing since the Commission issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking in October 2003;

-    plans for potential regulatory actions concerning table saws, including planned publication of a notice seeking comments on a 2017 study of table saw incidents conducted by CPSC staff and preparation of a final rule briefing package for consideration by the Commission in Fiscal Year 2019;

-    plans to prepare a final rule briefing package concerning carbon monoxide emissions from portable generators for consideration by the Commission in Fiscal Year 2019; and

-    additional consideration by the Commission of whether ROVs present an unreasonable risk of injury that requires regulatory action.
