DWR Water Use Efficiency Branch to Host Three Informational Meetings and Solicit Feedback

California’s comprehensive 2018 Water Conservation Legislation (AB 1668 and SB 606) requires the State Water Resource Control Board (SWRCB) to adopt long-term standards for efficient water use by June 30, 2022 in coordination with the Department of Water Resources (DWR). These regulations will include standards for indoor and outdoor water use, water lost to leaks, and variances for unique local conditions. Water suppliers must implement these standards through their water use objectives—which must be calculated, reported and met beginning January 1, 2024—or face SWRCB enforcement action.

As part of this rulemaking process, the DWR Water Use Efficiency Branch will host three meetings to provide information and request feedback relating to the DWR Water Use Efficiency Standard Recommendations. During these meetings, detailed below, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide input on these topics.

Meeting Schedule and Details

  • Meeting One: Oct. 25 from 9 a.m.-Noon

DWR will provide an update on the development processes for the outdoor water use standard and Commercial, Industrial and Institutional (CII) outdoor landscape area with dedicated irrigation meters standards. Register here.

  • Meeting Two: Nov. 16 from 1-4 p.m.

DWR will provide final draft recommendations for the outdoor water use standard and CII outdoor landscape area with dedicated irrigation meters standards. Register here.

  • Meeting Three: Nov. 17 from 9 a.m.-Noon and 1:30-5 p.m.

DWR will provide final draft recommendations on guidance, methodologies and variances, CII water use classification systems, and bonus incentives. Register here.
