Diesel Emission Reduction Funds: Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Announces Availability of Funding

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (“ADEQ”) issued a December 3rd news release announcing it is accepting proposal submissions for its Reduce Emissions from Diesels Program (“Program”).

ADEQ states that it distributes funds in Arkansas pursuant to the federal Diesel Emission Reduction Act (“DERA”).

DERA funding is stated to reimburse agencies, businesses, cities, counties, and schools for a percentage of expenses for projects that reduce or eliminate diesel emissions on medium and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment or for replacements of those vehicles and equipment.

ADEQ notes that recipients of DERA funds in Arkansas through the program in 2017 included:

  • Clinton School District (Replaced Two School Buses)
  • County Line School District (Replaced One School Bus)
  • Danville School District (Replaced One School Bus)
  • Dover School District (Replaced Two School Buses)
  • Heber Springs School District (Replaced One School Bus)
  • Horatio School District (Replaced One School Bus)
  • Viola School District (Replaced One School Bus)

For the 2018 program year, $649,494 of DERA funds are stated to be available to distribute to governmental, private, and nonprofit entities. Eligible projects are limited to those that reduce diesel emissions in Arkansas through:

  • Exhaust controls
  • Engine upgrades
  • Idling reduction technology
  • Engine replacements
  • Vehicle/equipment replacements
