New York employers struggling during the current global economic downturn should consider New York’s Shared Work Program as a vehicle to avoid layoffs. This Program, recently implemented by the New York State Department of Labor, permits qualifying employers to temporarily reduce the hours and wages of all employees or a particular group of employees while the State provides the affected employees with partial unemployment insurance benefits to supplement their lost wages.
