NVIDIA Unveils Supercomputer for Autonomous Vehicle Program’s AI Infrastructure
After three weeks of development, NVIDIA has unveiled a supercomputer capable of delivering 9.4 petaflops of processing, which can reportedly train the deep neural networks required for safe self-driving vehicles. A single data-collection vehicle generates 1 terabyte of data per hour; DGX SuperPOD takes a fraction of the space of similar performing systems at roughly 400 times smaller than its competitors.

Lexus to Make Driver Assistance System Standard in 2020 Models
Lexus announced that it will equip all U.S. vehicles with its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) in its 2020 models. The ADAS is designed to help protect drivers, passengers and pedestrians with an automated pre-collision system that can help maintain a preset speed and following distance from the vehicle ahead.

Bipartisan Pair of Senators Working to Reintroduce Self-Driving-Car Legislation
Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.) and Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) are reportedly looking to reintroduce the AV START Act. The Act would establish federal regulations and pre-empt individual states from passing a patchwork of laws that could create legislative road blocks for autonomous vehicles aiming to travel between states. The proposed law also contains language intended to protect vehicles from hacking and includes a provision for autonomous vehicle manufacturers to develop and execute a plan for reducing cybersecurity vulnerabilities. The Act was previously blocked due to Democrats’ concerns that the language on consumer safety and cybersecurity was not strong enough.

Brodmann17 Opens Office in Detroit
Brodmann17, which develops advanced driver assistance system software, has opened an office in Detroit, Michigan. Headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel, Brodmann17 has a presence in Japan and South Korea and plans to establish itself in Germany. Rob Crawford was named the U.S. general manager.

Florida Allows Operation of Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation that allows unmanned vehicles to operate in the state if all insurance parameters have been met. "With this bill, Florida officially has an open-door policy to autonomous vehicle companies and I encourage them to relocate from California to Florida,” DeSantis reportedly said before signing the bill.
