On January 6, 2022, Lisa Wang was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Enforcement and Compliance. The U.S. Senate confirmed Wang on December 16, 2021 by voice vote. Wang will be responsible for overseeing the Enforcement and Compliance division of the International Trade Administration, which carries out the nation’s antidumping and countervailing (AD/CVD) duty laws.

Wang’s career includes stints in both the public and private sectors. She has served as an Assistant General Counsel for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, where she defended U.S. AD/CVD laws at the World Trade Organization. She has also held several roles at the Department of Commerce, including at the Enforcement and Compliance Division. Most recently, Wang was a partner at a private law firm where she specialized in trade law, including trade remedy litigation.

During her confirmation hearing, Wang testified that “as foreign governments and foreign competitors become more sophisticated in their use of industrial subsidies and other unfair trade practices, we must work harder and smarter to counter these practices,” and that she looks forward to ensuring “that our U.S. trade remedy laws are transparently and vigorously enforced."
