In the last month we’ve seen new lawsuits, new jurists, and new ballot initiatives. Here are your highlights:

  • Hickenlooper appoints Lipinsky to the Court of Appeals Governor Hickenlooper appointed Lino Lipinsky, husband of Democratic Congresswoman Diana DeGette, to the Colorado Court of Appeals. This is the Governor’s 9th appointment on the 22-member court.
  • Kavanaugh confirmation hearings set to begin. Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will begin hearings on DC Circuit Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the US Supreme Court. If confirmed, Kavanaugh, a well-respected conservative jurist, is widely expected to shift the Court to the right, making Chief Justice John Roberts the swing vote.
  • Oil-and-gas initiative makes the ballot. Initiative 97, which would impose a 2,500-foot setback on oil and gas wells in Colorado, will appear on the November ballot. The controversial initiative is sure to spark heated debate in the lead-up to the 2018 election.
