On December 1, 2016, the National Minimum Wages Commission (CONASAMI) unanimously approved two new increases to the minimum wage.  The first increase, consisting of $4.00 Mexican pesos per day, has been designated as an “independent recuperation amount” to compensate for the government’s failure to adjust the minimum wage during 2016, due to various economic events worldwide.  The second increase, consisting of 3.9%, represents the rate that is typically approved for annual wage increases.  Accordingly, with these two measures, the daily minimum wage will increase from $73.04 to $80.04 pesos (currently, approximately $3.90 USD), as of January 1, 2017. 

Employers should review and adjust their payroll practices to comply with this new increase to the minimum wage.
