Last week, the Nevada legislature passed what the Reno Gazette-Journal has branded as the state’s “largest-ever tax increase”.  Although the state’s legislative website does not yet list the bill as having been approved by Governor Brian Sandoval, the Governor’s office released this laudatory statement concerning the legislation.

Nevada corporations and foreign corporations transacting business in Nevada will encounter fee increases beginning July 1.  According to Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske:

Effective July 1, 2015, the Secretary of State’s office will implement the following fee increases to business filings, as stipulated under SB 483:

• The annual state business license fee for for-profit corporations formed under Chapter 78, 78A, 78B, and 80 will increase to $500, from $200.

• The initial and annual list of members/managers or offices will increase by $25 for all entity types.

The business license fee for all other entity types besides for-profit corporations remains the same at $200 per year.

The Late and Much Admired Play Called
Pericles, Prince of Tyre

Over the weekend, I was fortunate to see Pericles, Prince of Tyre by William Shakespeare and a co-author (George Wilkens, perhaps).  This isn’t one Shakespeare’s more famous plays, but it is good entertainment. For me the most memorable line was this lament of Pericles in Act III, Scene 1 (an act that was probably penned by the Bard):

O you gods!
Why do you make us love your goodly gifts,
And snatch them straight away?
