May is here and another Coloradan has entered the race for president. Here are your public-law highlights:

  • Sine die! The Colorado General Assembly’s session ended last week, and there’s a lot of new laws to digest. Some highlights include a law overhauling oil and gas regulation in the state and a package of several campaign-finance and election reform bills. Attorney Chris Jackson was quoted by The Colorado Sun on one of those campaign-finance proposals.
  • “Red Flag” law faces legal challenge. The new law, which allows a trial court to enter an extreme risk protection order and seize a person’s guns for a specified period of time, was challenged in a lawsuit brought by a gun-rights organization and several state legislators last week. The Colorado Sun quoted attorney Chris Jackson in its coverage of the bill and on constitutional litigation in general.
  • Domenico confirmed to the federal bench. The US Senate confirmed Dan Domenico’s nomination to the US district court. Domenico, who previously served as Solicitor General of Colorado, replaces Robert Blackburn, who took senior status in 2016.
  • Bennet jumps into the presidential race. Michael Bennet, who has served as a US Senator since 2009, is officially running for president. With former Governor John Hickenlooper already in the race, Coloradans make up 9% of candidates vying for the Democratic nomination.
