Governor Hochul Nominates New Secretary of State
Governor Hochul has nominated Walter Mosley to serve as New York’s Secretary of State. The previous secretary of state, Robert Rodriguez, has taken another statewide role as the head of the Dormitory Authority of New York. Mosley previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2013 to 2020, representing Central Brooklyn. While in the Assembly, he was co-chair of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus’ Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Task Force on Cannabis. The State Senate will now need to confirm Mosley before he begins the position.
City of Yes for Housing Opportunity Begins Public Review
Public review has begun for the “City of Yes for Housing Opportunity,” a new city zoning proposal. The Department of City Planning has released the draft environmental impact statement of the proposal, and it will now be officially referred to community boards throughout the City, along with the five borough presidents. A full analysis of the draft zoning text is available here. At the conclusion of the public review process, the NYC Council will vote on the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity at the end of 2024.
Play Fair Coalition Rally for Parks
The Play Fair for Parks Coalition will be holding a rally tomorrow, May 7 at 6:00pm in Union Square Park. The Play Fair Coalition consists of several advocacy groups throughout the City, and they are rallying to celebrate NYC Parks and advocate for long-term Parks funding in the FY25 budget.
