The Office of the State Comptroller has issued its annual report on local governments from 2016.  The report shows (i) a reduction in the number of local government and school districts which received a designation of some level of fiscal stress (from 141 to 97); and (ii) an increase in sales tax revenues.  While this is certainly a positive step the report also shows (i) a drop “in many places” on equipment and capital projects which may indicate possible delayed improvements or purchases and (ii) notes that “billions are needed for local bridges; roads and other transportation systems also need attention”.
