Montgomery County is in the process of updating several of its master plans, which make recommendations regarding land use, zoning, transportation and public facilities that shape the future development of specific properties. The master plan adoption process entails the development of a draft plan by Montgomery County Planning Staff (“Planning Staff”) and the Planning Board, approval by the County Council, and, finally, adoption by the full Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Below is a list of key master plans that Montgomery County is in the process of updating:

• Fairland Briggs Chaney Master Plan: Planning Staff have presented their preliminary recommendations for this area along U.S. Route 29 near Burtonsville and will soon release a working draft. A Planning Board public hearing is anticipated in May, with adoption expected later this year.
• Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment: Planning Staff are currently engaging with the community and will have a working draft by the spring. Adoption is expected early next year.
• Life Sciences/Great Seneca Science Corridor Plan Amendment: Planning Staff are currently engaging with the Gaithersburg-area community to develop preliminary recommendations and a working draft. Adoption is expected in spring 2024.
• University Boulevard Corridor Plan: Planning Staff are currently engaging with the community north of Silver Spring to develop preliminary recommendations and a working draft. Adoption is expected in fall 2024.
• Silver Spring Communities Plan (no link available): Planning Staff will begin engaging with the community to develop preliminary recommendations and a working draft by the middle of the year. There is currently no timeline for adoption of this plan, which covers residential communities surrounding downtown Silver Spring.
• Clarksburg Master Plan Amendment: Planning Staff are in the preliminary stages of planning this amendment. There is currently no timeline for adoption of this plan.
