The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) has announced the release of the 2025 Guidelines and Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Brownfields Remediation and Economic Development Fund Grants.
This competitive funding opportunity is available to Government or Public Entities, Non-Profit Organizations, and Private/Non-Governmental Entities to support the cleanup and revitalization of contaminated or underutilized properties throughout the Rhode Island. This opportunity can provide critical funding resources for municipalities, developers, and property owners engaged in transformative redevelopment projects.

- Application Deadline: All applications must be submitted electronically to DEM.BrownfieldBG@dem.ri.gov by 4PM on Friday, May 9, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.

Eligibility and Funding:
- Eligible Applicants: Government or public entities, non-profit organizations, and private/non-governmental entities that legally control a brownfield site and propose projects with significant economic development impact, community benefits, and leveraged funding are eligible to apply.
- Examples of Eligible Costs: Site Assessment, Remediation, Hazardous Material Abatement, and other costs necessary to implement an approved Remedial Action Work Plan (RAWP).
- Examples of Projects Funded:
- Tidewater Landing – $250k soil excavation & construction of engineering caps
- Former Urban League of RI– $275k soil remediation & abatement of Haz. Waste
- Future Finishing – $150k site assessment of groundwater & sub-slab soil gas
- Rise Above All Properties – $275k soil excavation, disposal, encapsulation
