44 AGs Rally for AI Safeguards, Endorsing New Commission to Combat Child Exploitation

The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), submitted a letter on behalf of 44 state and territorial AGs to U.S. House leadership endorsing the Child Exploitation and Artificial Intelligence Expert Commission Act of 2024 (the Act), which would establish a commission tasked with enhancing law enforcement’s ability to address child exploitation crimes involving artificial intelligence.
In the letter, the AGs acknowledged that AI can serve as an incredible tool, but highlighted that there are vulnerabilities that criminals may exploit. The AGs expressed a desire to work with the commission established by the Act to create appropriate safety measures and updates to existing laws, ensuring the protection of children from digital exploitation and holding perpetrators accountable.
In a letter sent last year, the AGs urged Congress to establish a commission to study the potential use of AI in child exploitation and called for legislation to safeguard children from such abuses.
