On October 7, 2024, Dohman, Akerlund & Eddy, LLC filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine after discovering that an unauthorized actor gained access to the firm’s IT network and removed certain files. However, DA&E’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on February 28, 2024, DA&E experienced a disruption to its IT network. In response, DA&E secured its network and then began working with cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident.

Through this investigation, DA&E confirmed that an unauthorized party had accessed its network on February 28, 2024, and removed certain files containing confidential information from its network.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Dohman, Akerlund & Eddy reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. DA&E completed this process on September 26, 2024, noting that the breached information varies depending on the individual. Then, on October 7, 2024, Dohman, Akerlund & Eddy sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. Note that while the data breach letter available on the Maine Attorney General’s website does not mention what data types were leaked, the personalized data breach letters that were recently sent should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
