On June 23, 2023, Activate Healthcare, LLC filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Montana after learning that an unauthorized party was able to access confidential patient information following what appears to have been a cyberattack. Based on the company’s official filing, the incident resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to patients’ names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, driver’s license numbers, and clinical information, such as provider names, dates of service, and diagnoses. News of the Activate Healthcare, LLC data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from the company’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana. According to this source, on April 27, 2023, Activate Health’s IT department detected suspicious activity within the company’s computer network. In response, Activate Health notified law enforcement and then began working with third-party data security specialists to learn more about the nature and scope of the incident.

Unfortunately, the Activate Health investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access its computer system on April 22, 2023 and April 28, 2023. It was also confirmed that the unauthorized party copied some of the documents from Activate Health’s computer system. Some of these files contained confidential patient information.

Upon discovering that sensitive patient data was made available to an unauthorized party, Activate Healthcare, LLC began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which patients were impacted.
