African Union Summit On January 30th, addressing the African Union (AU) Summit, United Nations (U.N.) Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson pledged the U.N. will continue to be Africa’s partner as the continent pursues economic development, peace, job creation, and higher quality of life. Deputy Secretary-General Eliasson also noted the progress that many African countries have made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and expressed concern for ongoing conflicts in South Sudan and the Central African Republic (CAR).
