  • New York AG Letitia James settled with cookware company Hy Cite Enterprises, LLC—which owns the brands Royal Prestige and Kitchen Charm—to resolve allegations that Hy Cite’s door-to-door sales practices violated the state’s Door-to-Door Sales Protection Act, Executive Law, General Business Law, and Personal Property Law.
  • According to the AG’s office, Hy Cite, the products of which were typically sold door-to-door in predominantly Spanish-speaking neighborhoods, used sales contracts that did not contain the conspicuous refund policy required by law and only allowed returns within three business days even though the law requires a 20-day return period.
  • Under the terms of the Assurance of Discontinuance, Hy Cite must pay $300,000 in civil penalties and restitution to affected consumers; provide a clear, conspicuous written description of its return policy in both English and Spanish; and allow unopened goods to be exchanged within 60 days, among other things.
