What Caused the Amgen / Sirva Data Breach?

The Amgen / Sirva data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Amgen’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on September 29, 2023, Sirva became aware of suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, Sirva launched an investigation, which ultimately confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access portions of its IT network between August 16, 2023 and October 17, 2023. During this period, certain files containing confidential information that had been provided to Sirva by Amgen were copied by the unauthorized actor.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Sirva reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. On August 24, 2024, Sirva informed Amgen of the incident, as well as the fact that information Amgen provided to Sirva was among the leaked data. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, financial account information, employment information, medical information, contact information and date of birth.

On September 24, 2024, Amgen sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
