The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) issued a June 3rd news release stating that it cited Duda Farm Fresh Foods Inc. (“Fresh Foods”) for alleged violations.
Fresh Food is stated to operate a farm in Belle Glade, Florida.
OSHA cited Fresh Foods for allegedly:
- Failing to develop procedures for notifying employees of emergencies and evacuation
- Failing to develop a written emergency response plan
- Failing to provide safety and health training to employees operating ammonia refrigeration systems
- Failing to ensure that employees required to respond to ammonia releases were provided a full-face respirator fit test
The inspection conducted by OSHA was stated to be covered by its National Emphasis Program on Process Safety Management Covered Chemical Facilities.
OSHA proposes to assess civil penalties of $95,472.
The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
