In January 2024, APT Foundation, Inc. (“APT”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Massachusetts after discovering that confidential information that had been entrusted to the organization was subject to unauthorized access. In this notice, APT explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names and Social Security numbers. What Caused the APT Foundation Data Breach?

The APT Foundation data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, APT’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on December 22, 2023, an employee of APT was conducting a test of certain APT systems when they accidentally sent a file containing confidential information to an unknown party. While APT notes that the employee attempted to recall the email, the company does not indicate whether the employee's attempt was successful.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, APT Foundation reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name and Social Security number.

In January 2024, APT Foundation sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
