Arizona Industrial Commission Issues Proposed Rules for Paid Sick Time

The Industrial Commission of Arizona (ICA) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on May 5, 2017, containing the ICA’s much-anticipated draft regulations on Arizona's new paid sick time law, which goes into effect on July 1, 2017.  A copy of the draft regulations can be found on the Arizona Secretary of State's website.

The proposed regulations do not appear to answer, or even address, some of the most significant questions and concerns raised by employers in their attempts to become compliant with the new law by July 1.

Those of you who want to get a jump start on the commentary process, may submit written comments to the ICA regarding the proposed rules by June 5, 2017, when the agency’s notice period closes. Also, a hearing on the proposed rulemaking is scheduled for June 5, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., in the auditorium of the Industrial Commission of Arizona, 800 West Washington, Phoenix, Arizona 85007.

We will publish a summary of the proposed regulations early next week.
