Travis County Judge Andy Brown’s County Judge Order No. 2021-01 »
Order 20210128-025 by the Mayor of the City of Austin »
The moratorium on residential evictions was enacted as a result of COVID-19 and has been extended multiple times over the last several months as the pandemic continues.
Each order prevents landlords from issuing Notices to Vacate for non-payment of rent, and also prohibits removing or seizing a tenant’s non-exempt property pursuant to a landlord’s lien. The order also covers commercial tenants who operate a childcare business, live-music venue, arts venue, or restaurant or bar.
Landlords are allowed to issue Notices to Vacate if a tenant or a member of their household poses an imminent threat of physical harm, criminal activity, or property damage, or if an insured casualty loss makes the premises totally unusable.
The newly extended orders will now run through April 1.
