Gary Gensler was sworn in on Saturday, as a member of the SEC.  He was confirmed by the Senate to be the Chair of the SEC on April 14, 2021. According to the SEC’s press release, Gensler said: “I feel incredibly privileged to join the SEC’s team of remarkable public servants….As Chair, every day I will be animated by our mission: protecting investors, facilitating capital formation, and promoting fair, orderly, and efficient markets. It is that mission that has helped make American capital markets the most robust in the world.”

As discussed in this PubCo post, his confirmation was only for the remainder of former Chair Jay Clayton’s term, which ends June 5, 2021, and there will need to be a separate vote to confirm his reappointment for a term expiring June 5, 2026.  For a discussion of the questioning at his hearing before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, see this PubCo post.  For a discussion of the press reports on his nomination, see this PubCo post.
