What Caused the Bradford-Scott Data Breach?

The Bradford-Scott data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Bradford-Scott’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on July 2, 2023, Bradford-Scott detected unusual activity within portions of its computer network. In response, Bradford-Scott secured its network and then enlisted the help of third-party data forensic specialists to assist with the company’s investigation.

Through its investigation, Bradford-Scott determined that an unauthorized party was able to access part of its IT network between May 19, 2023 and May 28, 2023, including files containing confidential information belonging to certain consumers.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Bradford-Scott Data reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Bradford-Scott completed this review process on December 10, 2023.

On February 13, 2024, Bradford-Scott Data sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. Unfortunately, the publicly available data breach letter available on the Montana Attorney General's website does not list the specific information that was leaked. However, the personalized data breach letters sent to victims should provide them with a list of what information of theirs was compromised.
