WNBA player Brittney Griner was released from Russian detention after 294 days in a prisoner swap between the governments of the United States and Russia that included the return to Moscow of convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.

As discussed in our previous blog, Griner was serving a nine-year prison sentence after being a Russian court found her guilty on charges related to a miniscule amount of cannabis oil in vape cartridges found in luggage upon entry into Russia in February of 2022.
