This week, at the highly anticipated forced labor expo, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) unveiled its new Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Statistics Dashboard aimed at providing transparency for UFLPA enforcement. The interactive dashboard was expected to be released on March 31st, but was unveiled ahead of time on CBP’s website at CBP.gov. The dashboard provides users with select views to obtain specific details on forced labor regarding shipments subjected to UFLPA reviews and enforcement actions to date. Key features of the interactive dashboard include:
– Breakdown of total shipments that have been detained, denied, released, and total value of those shipments;
– Shipment values by quarter;
– Shipment count by industry and exam results;
– Filter capabilities depending on country of origin and specific industry
CBP confirmed that although the new dashboard provides the industry with greater visibility, sensitive information will still be protected.
At the expo, CBP noted that 1,910 entries of goods have already been detained due to forced labor concerns in fiscal year 2023. Of those, 1,701 were detained pursuant to UFLPA. CBP confirmed that it expects that detentions and reviews under UFLPA in 2023 will far exceed those reviewed in 2022. The dashboard trends show that the top industries which have been subject to the most enforcement are 1) electronics, 2) apparel, footwear, and textiles, and 3) industrial and manufacturing materials.
