Recently, CDK Global (“CDK”) confirmed reports that the company was targeted in a cyberattack. While the automotive software giant hasn’t yet filed anything official about a data breach, many in the industry are speculating that the incident could have exposed the confidential information of a large number of U.S. consumers. CDK is currently investigating the matter, and if the company confirms that consumer or employee information was leaked, it will be required to send data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

If you receive a data breach notification from CDK Global, it is essential you understand what is at risk and what you can do about it. A data breach lawyer can help you learn more about how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft, as well as discuss your legal options following a possible CDK Global data breach. Was There a CDK Global Data Breach?

CDK Global only recently confirmed that it was the target of a cyberattack, so it’s too soon to tell if there was a CDK data breach. However, CDK representatives have spoken with reporters to provide some insight into what’s going on.

According to the most recent sources, CDK became aware that they were breached on June 18, 2024, prompting the company to shut down its data centers and IT systems. These actions, while necessary to protect the information in the company’s possession, had a profound impact on the company’s 15,000+ car dealerships that use CDK software.

CDK was in the process of bringing its systems back online on Wednesday when they were once again forced to shut down their systems due to another cybersecurity incident. This appears to be a second and possibly unrelated incident. In fact, in subsequent notification, CDK explained, “We are sorry to inform you that we experienced an additional cyber incident late in the evening on June 19th.”

According to the most recent update from CDK, the company plans to bring its systems back online on June 21, 2024. However, some are concerned that CDK is moving too quickly to bring its systems back online, which could increase the risk customers are facing.

It’s too early to determine if any consumer information was leaked or if there was a CDK Global data breach at all. However, CDK is almost certainly in the process of investigating the incidents. If CDK determines that confidential consumer information was leaked as a result of the cyberattack, the company will be required to send out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
