What Caused the Central Texas Pediatric Orthopedics Data Breach?

The Central Texas Pediatric Orthopedics data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, at this point, it does not appear as though CTPO has posted a website notice or issued a press release discussing the incident. Additionally, CTPO’s filing with the Attorney General of Texas provides only limited information on what led up to the breach.

According to the available information, CTPO recently determined that an unauthorized party was able to access confidential patient information that had been provided to the practice. While it’s certainly possible that CTPO experienced the breach, it’s also possible that CTPO is reporting a third-party data breach on behalf of a vendor.

Regardless, after learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Central Texas Pediatric Orthopedics reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, medical information, health insurance information, and government-issued identification.

On March 6, 2025, Central Texas Pediatric Orthopedics sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
