What Caused the Chimienti & Associates Data Breach?

The Chimienti & Associates data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Chimienti’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. Chimienti also posted a website notice discussing the incident and the firm’s response.

According to these sources, on March 22, 2024, Chimienti detected unusual activity within a company email account. In response, Chimienti launched an investigation to learn more about the incident and whether any information in the company’s possession was compromised.

Through this investigation, Chimienti confirmed that an unauthorized party had gained access to the company email account between March 22, 2024 and March 26, 2024. It was also determined that the email account contained confidential information belonging to certain individuals.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Chimienti & Associates reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Chimienti completed this process on October 11, 2024. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, state-issued identification information, date of birth, health information, and financial account information.

On October 23, 2024, Chimienti & Associates sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
