The Supreme Court’s Technology Department has done it again. Quietly adding even more features to the appellate courts’ electronic filings site, www.ncappellatecourts.org

The filing site has long allowed attorneys and the public to locate and view records, briefs, and other appellate filings by using a flexible search engine.   A few years ago, a direct link to each case’s docket sheet was also added.

While using the website this week, we noticed three additional features: (1) a link to all orders entered under a particular case number, (2) an opinion link, and (3) a link to the appeal information statement (for cases where the AIS was filed electronically).  I’ve highlighted the new information in a screenshot.

These changes are helpful because it is no longer necessary to bounce between multiple locations to access all the information related to an appellate case.

I am confident that I speak for the bar in thanking the appellate courts for continuing to implement time-saving features on its e-filing website–while also looking for ways to make the e-filing website more intuitive and easier to navigate.  These changes allow attorneys to focus more on the tasks we find enjoyable: crafting (hopefully) well-reasoned briefs and arguments.
