On January 13, 2025, Atlanta-based Circle K franchisee Gas Express LLC filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Massachusetts after discovering that an unauthorized party was able to access information that had been provided to the company. In this notice, Gas Express explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, driver’s license numbers, and Social Security numbers. Upon completing its investigation, Gas Express began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What Caused the Gas Express Data Breach?

The Gas Express data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Gas Express’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides only limited information on what led up to the breach, and the company does not appear to have issued a press release or posted a notice on its website providing additional details.

Thus, at this early point, all we know is that Gas Express recently experienced a data security incident that involved an unauthorized actor gaining access to the company’s computer network. After learning about the incident and conducting an investigation, Gas Express confirmed that the unauthorized party was able to access confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Gas Express reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, driver’s license number, and Social Security number.

On January 13, 2025, Gas Express sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised. Gas Express is also offering all victims complimentary identity protection services.
