Combustible Dust/OSHA Enforcement: Proposed Citation to Freeland, Pennsylvania, Plastic Recycler

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) issued a March 14th news release stating that it is proposing citations to PGA Inc. (“PGA”).

PGA is described as a plastic recycler operating a facility in Freeland, Pennsylvania.

OSHA stated it initiated two inspections on September 2, 2021, after receiving a referral from the Freeland Borough’s Office of Code Enforcement. Employees at PGA were allegedly exposed to combustible dust and other workplace safety and health hazards.

PGA has been cited for alleged violations which include:

  • Permitting dangerous amounts of combustible dust to build up on surfaces that could possibly ignite due to open electrical equipment in the area

OSHA proposes penalties of $88,423.
