What Caused the Community Alliance Data Breach?

The Community Alliance data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Community Alliance’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. Community Alliance also posted a notice on its website discussing the incident.

According to these sources, on April 8, 2024 Community Alliance detected suspicious activity within its computer environment. In response, Community Alliance launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity specialists to learn more about the incident and what, if any, consumer information was affected.

Through this investigation, Community Alliance learned that an unauthorized actor accessed certain systems between April 2, 2024 and April 8, 2024, including files containing confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Community Alliance reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, date of birth, birth certificate, Social Security number, driver’s license number, financial information, medical information, health insurance information, online account credentials, and electronic/digital signature.

Recently, Community Alliance sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
