What Caused the Compex Legal Services Data Breach?

The Compex Legal Services data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Compex’s filing with the Attorney General of California provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on April 17, 2024, Compex detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, Compex secured its systems and then began working with third-party cybersecurity specialists to investigate the incident.

Through this investigation, Compex confirmed that an unauthorized party had been able to access its network starting on April 9, 2024, and that they acquired certain files while on the network.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Compex Legal Services reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, date of birth, Social Security number, medical diagnosis and treatment information, medical record number, and health insurance information.

On July 24, 2024, Compex Legal Services sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
