What Caused the Complete Care Health Network Data Breach?

The Complete Care Health Network data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Complete Care’s filing with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights provides some important information on what led up to the breach. CompleteCare also posted a notice on its website discussing the incident.

According to these sources, on October 12, 2023, CompleteCare detected and stopped a ransomware attack in which an unauthorized party accessed portions of the company’s computer network. In response, CompleteCare disconnected its systems and then began working with third-party data security specialists to investigate the incident and any potential impact on patient information.

The CompleteCare investigation ultimately determined that an unauthorized party was able to access its systems and may have exfiltrated certain information, including confidential patient information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Complete Care Health Network reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, phone number, address, and health-related information.

On December 15, 2023, Complete Care Health Network sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
