Congressman David Jolly of Florida is working on a bill that would provide a pathway for E-2 visa holders to obtain permanent residence based on the length of their residency in the United States and their economic stability. Specifically, the bill allows for those who have been in the U.S. on an E-2 visa for more than 10 years to apply for permanent residency. Currently, all E-2 nonimmigrants must maintain an intention to depart the U.S. when their status expires or is terminated. As a result, they are not eligible to pursue permanent residency. In addition, the bill changes the age of E-2 dependents from 21 years of age to 26.
